LAWTON, Okla. January 3, 2010 – The Lawton-Fort Sill Cavalry defeated the Halifax Rainmen in the first game of the season with a score of 102-87. Returning Cavs player Brandon Dean scored the first points for the Cavs. Dean scored 19 total points in 31 minutes of play. Cavs DeAnthony Bowden was a major factor in the domination of the Rainmen in the first quarter. He continued to score point after point and enabled the Cavs to win the first quarter 31-18. Bowden scored 20 total points in 26 minutes of play. He had two total rebounds and three steals. Cavs co-owner Phil Kennedy said, “We started off strong in the first quarter and continued to play good ball throughout the rest of the game.”
The Cavs maintained control in the second quarter of the game. Dean scored a few three pointers. Cavs Shawn Daniels had a total of 8 assists and proved to be a driving force in the team. Daniels scored 10 total points as well.
The Cavs maintained their lead in the third quarter. Halifax Rainman Eric Crookshank received a technical foul and Cavs Tim Ellis was able to increase the lead 75-58 by making the second foul shot. The fourth quarter of the game was the most action packed of all. The last two minutes consisted of many fouls on both sides. The Cavs received 23 total personal fouls to the Rainmen’s 20 total personal fouls. Cavs co-owner Mike Brown said, “The fourth quarter of the game is usually the most intense and it was proven true tonight.” Cavs newcomer Wayne Marshall scored 18 total points in the game and 8 total rebounds in 22 minutes of play.
